# Forward Deployed AI Engineering

A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is an engineer who works inside your organisation rather than behind a vendor's support desk. They sit with your team, learn your systems and your data, and build the AI integration themselves until it runs in production.

## What a Forward Deployed Engineer does

Most AI projects stall in the gap between a promising demo and a system your people actually use. The model works; the connection to your databases, permissions, workflows and edge cases does not. An FDE owns that gap.

In practice that means reading your schemas and your tickets, pairing with the people who will use the result, writing the glue code and the evaluation harness, fine-tuning models on your data where it helps, and staying until the system is measured, monitored and handed over. The FDE is accountable for the outcome in your environment, not for a reference architecture.

## How an engagement runs
